How to write about your work?

How to write about your work?

In order to write effectively about your work, you need to be able to be clear about its meaning.
What is it responding to, trying to solve, improving or communicating?

Pick your favorite project

Project task: Create a piece (or pieces) of online content (video or image), at the heart of a shareable, social anti-fur campaign for the 21st Century, under the heading Fur for Animals. Drive awareness of and followers for Fur for Animals, and spark conversations about the cause. How can you convince people that this is still an issue, that there’s no such thing as ethical fur? And once you’ve got them engaged, what can they do to make a difference?

Now we the elevator pitch; one sentence that covers the following: What, How and Why?

What's the core idea? To prompt young adults that wearing a real fur is still an issue.

How does it work? Convincing young adults that animals are our friends, not trends.

Why does it work? The friendly and emotional approach makes people think twice without forcing them to change their minds and opinion.

What is The Design Kids?

TDK (The Design Kids) is a global online resource and local offline communities around the world, for thousands of student and graduate graphic designers. Their aim is to educate, inspire and connect people to the design industry.

Who is Frankie Ratford?

Frankie Ratford is from Australia, and is TDK Director

Frankie’s name has been photoshopped into ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego’ more than once. She’s fascinated with the intersection between design, travel and business, and likes to do five things at the same time. She has worked as a print designer, a lecturer, an intern, a blogger, a freelancer, a book binder and a bunch of other design related stuff. She’s lived in 13 cities, in 25+ houses and is currently road tripping around the world for six years, right now in Europe building the TDK empire (lols). She started The Design Kids in 2009 and launched with a market stall in the front yard with some mates and a DJ. She is a sunny Sagittarius who splits her time between her 60’s shack in rural Tasmania and catching planes to far away (warmer) places.

What are Frankie's steps for reaching her goal?

- Get Inspired

- Get Involved
- Get Hired

Frankie's Motto

'Ikigai' is a Japanese concept that means 'a reason for being'

How did Frankie get to where she is?

Frankie loves to travel so she decided to take her portfolio work with her and attend talks for studios and university students. Frankie had also multiple jobs these include screen printing, working for the Studio 'Frost' and volunteering.

Final Advice

- Get Involved!
- Find that one thing that you are good at and passionate about to succeed!
