PPP / Module Evaluation

                                                                  Module Evaluation

PPP is a module that is highly beneficial in terms of gaining knowledge and experience within the industry. Additionally, it is an opportunity to reflect on how you want to communicate yourself as a designer, for potential clients and work opportunities, through self-identity.

This module allowed me to create my self branding project of which I am very proud of. Branding myself was especially difficult for me as my name is quite long and very often people don't know how to pronounce my surname. I took the decision to use a different brand name which is 'Mitsuvanity'. As I previously said, a lot of people known me by this nickname so I thought it would be appropriate to use it. Once I decided on a concept it was quite easy and fun to develop. In this brief, I wanted to show myself, what I love and my interest as a designer. My self-branding project designs like a logo, business cards etc affect my audience, and it shouldn't be about how I feel about it so I had to ask the audience which are my close friends, mainly because they all seen my work and know me very well as a person. This helped me to produce an outcome which really shows my personality and the style of my work. I feel I experimented throughout the brief well as I have created business cards, cv, stickers and my own website with a portfolio on WIX. All those resolutions followed the same guidelines such as colour and style, to show continuity across the whole project.

Out of university, I have attended multiple talks and creative events. I haven't completed any placement during the school year, because my idea was to get a placement during the summer holidays as I have applied for postgraduates in London, so after my placement, my plan was to stay with them for a part-time job if offered. In a meantime, I was contacting different graphic design studios in Poland to have a backup plan. Also, I thought it would be beneficial for me as a designer to travel and do a placement in a different country as well. I have been invited to the placement in one of the graphic design studios in Poland which is based on advertising and packaging designs. I decided to go to Poland during the summer and do my placement there.

Overall I feel I have learned a lot about myself as a person and who I am as a creative within the industry this year. I feel the style of my work has really changed. I have gained the most experience this year than previously in levels 4 and 5, by contacting multiple studios within the and UK and Poland. By establishing that these are locations I am interested in working in the future.

Self Branding / Final Branding

                                                                      Business Card

CV

Stickers

For myself branding project, I have created my own logo design, a set of business cards, creative cv, stickers and online website. All those resolutions followed the same guidelines such as colour and style, to show continuity across the whole project.

PPP / Social Media

For the social media, I have created my own Behance, Instagram and Linkedin account which contains all my work but it still needs to be developed. Therefore, by making these vital online accounts will help to prepare me to find these potential connections, networks, job opportunities, and clients.

Behance - Link

I have created my Behance account last year to upload my work on it. Currently, it contains mostly second-year work as it is in a current development. It contains only three projects from this year.

Linkedin -

I have created a Linkedin account, I was struggling with it as it didn't allow me to change the background image where I wanted to upload my logo, and I couldn't add any information about me.
Below is the picture of how my profile should look like.

Instagram - Link

As Instagram has become a very famous platform, and people are using it to share their work I have decided to create an account for myself. The website is in a current development as I want to upload my work from the third year as well.

Self Branding / Creative CV

Creative CV

The design for my creative CV, I used information such us languages, education, competitions entered, experience, what I don't want and skills. The design is consistent with my business card design.

Self Branding - Website

WIX Website

After only using Behance to share my work as a designer, I felt as though it was a perfect time to upgrade to a more professional platform. I used a standard domain on Wix and have been using it to upload past project. In the future, I would like to spend more time on the website to add more features and hopefully start selling my own work.

Self Branding / Business Card / Stickers

As I am using pastel colours for my work I wanted to include it in my business card. I feel those designs look professional yet informal because of the light pink colour. I used people as it was the main colour people suggested to me as it relates to me as a person as well. As I am doing photography, illustrations and graphic design I didn't wanted to limit my self that's why I used the word creative.

Feedback

I asked people online for the feedback and to help me chose the best design. People voted between the first and last design, also I have been suggested to try the white circle on the first one and make the plant see as it is coming out of it to make it more interesting.

I decided to mix the first and last design. This was suggested to me as well to add white circle to the first one as it was too plain. Plus as an extra I used simple lines on both sides of the word 'creative' to make it stand out.

                                                                    Final Design

The business cards will be printed out double sided in 85x55 mm size with the use of thick, card stock. Overall I'm extremely proud of how these look, and feel they really communicate my style and process as a designer.

Stickers

I have printed out some sticker designs with my logo.

Self Branding / Logo Design

                                                                       Logo Design

In 2010, my first ever twitter name was 'Mitsuvanity'. This is a name I am very familiar with. Since that I was keep using this nick name for instagram and snapchat account, people started to calling me by this name. I thought I should use it for my self branding as my surname is quite long and I don't like people calling me by it. Self branding has to really try and capture you as a peron and a designed which I fell this name will.

As I love to use calligraphy in my own work I wanted to use it as my font for the name. The font name is Sanies Script. Also most of my briefs are based on animals/ nature and I did quite a lot of illustration work so I thought it would be nice to add simple illustration to it. The logo is very simple which shows my minimalist style. I will use pastel colours for the background. Below is an example of the potential logo designs:

Feedback

I asked my close friends for the feedback as they know me and my work very well. The feedback was very positive.

- I feel this logo signify, very well you as a person and a designer. I think, you should use 2nd design.
- Add some pastel pink colours for the background and it will be perfect! 3rd design!
- Love the way you used 'Mitsuvanity' as you name, but you should try to use your name as well. Personally I prefer the second design.
- Maybe try to add some illustrations of the animals, as your briefs are mostly based on them. :) 2nd design!
- Love it! I like the last design
- The design number 2 or 3!

Self Branding / Minimalistic Business Cards

After receiving my friend's opinion about my work and style I have decided to create business cards using just a thick paper. Mainly because, I would like to include pastel colours to it and using aluminium would no allow me to do it. I have done a bit of research and I found really interesting designs.

Self Branding / About Me

As I need to create my self branding/self promotion project I thought it will be worth to gather all information about me as a designer. I have also asked my close friends who are always seeing my work to help me, choosing the right words which could express my work and me as a person/designer and the work I am producing.

What I like?

- Pastel Colours
- Pink Colour
- Cute Things/Designs
- Animals / Nature (most of my briefs is based on animals)
- Minimalistic style (which emphasizes simplicity and the removal of superfluous elements in a design, stripping it down to its fundamental elements, colours, shapes and textures.
- Handwritten type
- Illustrations
- Photography

Self Branding / Metal Business Card

Using my research on unique business cards I gain an idea of creating metal business cards.  For my extended practice collaboration brief I had a chance to learn how to use the leaser printer so I decided to give it a go and use my gained skills. The concept behind using metal for business cards is that is strong, lasting and will leave an impression. Metal business cards would be easier to hold onto rather than lose in a bag or a pocket. Also the paper business cards is very easy to get dirty and it makes the text faded after a while.

I went to the metal workshop in our uni to discuss the idea further. I was advised that I will need to source the metal, cut it to the right size and then use the sandblast method (the best way to get the design onto it). To do this I need to buy etch resist vinyl and lasercut the design, then pick up the parts I want to be sandblasted, the covered section will not be touched.

Limitations

Metal could be heavy and sharp on the edges (people might cut themselves with it).
It's hard to print designs onto it simply.

Positives

Doesn't rip or decompose
Different than the other business cards
Looks interesting/unique
Conceptual
Leaves a lasting impression

Self Branding / Business Cards

                                                         Unique Business Cards

This year I wanted to create something conceptual to my own identity, but also something that looks engaging and more unique. I began to try and find examples of business cards that have thought outside the box, and produced something out of the usual through materials and print methods.

Research into bespoke business cards gave an insight into how different materials can be applied to create a resolution that stands out and gets noticed. Materials can give this effect such as glass, neon plastic or aluminium.

Self Branding / Previous Design / Lynx

First year self branding - Lynx

In my first year, I began to do my first attempt at my self branding / self promotion designs. For the name, I looked into names which are associated with the moon, night as I loved to include certain illustrations of the moon in my designs on my foundation course and first year. Also, the moon is associated with night and black colour so I thought it would be a nice connection to my work as all my illustrations were always black and white. My research ended up on looking at the constellation list from which I chose 'Lynx' which is the name of the star for my brand name.

Logo Development:

For the last three logo designs, I have used some illustrations, all of them were only black and white as I loved to work only with those colours and with the fine linear.

My self branding in first year also contained illustrated playing cards with all my designs. Below is en example of it:

                                                                      Evaluation

Overall, I was very happy with my outcome as it showed exactly what I was aiming for, but now looking at those designs form the first year, especially the name its not something I would like to further develop now. I didn't used this logo anywhere at all as then I realized the name 'Lynx' a lot of people associate with the company of male grooming products. I feel I have developed and changed as a designer so this year I will create a logo design which I am going to be proud of and will definitely use it for my designs and website.
